A substantial majority of respondents to a recent survey indicating that more people disapprove of President Joe Biden than ever before stated that Biden is neither physically nor mentally suitable to serve as president.
In a matchup of prospective 2024 candidates, former President Donald Trump defeated Vice President Joe Biden, who recently declared his candidacy for a second term.
56 percent of those surveyed disapprove of Biden’s position in the White House, with 47 percent significantly disapproving, according to a Washington Post-ABC News poll. These are Biden’s greatest levels of disapproval since the poll began in April 2021.
The survey was conducted from April 28 to May 3. It was based on a sample of 1,006 adults and had an error margin of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.

In its report, the Post noted that the poll showed “Biden’s mental sharpness and physical health doubted.”
Andrea, an independent Oklahoma voter who supported Biden in the 2020 election, was quoted by the Post as saying, “I don’t think [Biden] has the mental capacity to be president.”
When voters were asked if Biden possessed the necessary mental acuity for the position, 63 percent said he did not, while 32 percent said he did.
On the issue of physical fitness, the results were comparable, with 33% stating that Biden was physically healthy and 62% stating that he was not.
In spite of the fact that Trump is only four years younger than Biden (76 vs. 80), poll respondents viewed their physical and mental capacities quite differently.

64 percent of respondents to the survey believed that Trump possessed the physical fitness to serve as president again. In addition, 54 percent of respondents believed Trump possessed the mental acuity to serve as president, while 43 percent disagreed.
When the survey queried respondents about their 2024 preferences, including which candidate they were inclined toward, Trump emerged victorious with 49 percent support compared to Biden’s 42 percent support.
The poll also asked about replacing Trump in 2024 with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who is perceived as a probable candidate for the Republican nomination for president. In this contest, DeSantis received 48 percent support compared to 41 percent support for Biden.

Biden last week said his age is not a handicap.
“I have acquired a hell of a lot of wisdom and know more than the vast majority of people. And I’m more experienced than anybody that’s ever run for the office. And I think I’ve proven myself to be honorable, as well as also effective,” he said in an interview that aired Friday, according to The New York Times.
