Tuesday evening, former U.S. Navy SEALs performed well in midterm elections.
Fox News reports that Republican Derrick Van Orden, a retired SEAL, defeated Democratic challenger Brad Pfaff in Wisconsin’s 3rd Congressional District, turning the district from blue to red for the first time in 26 years.
The seat in the state’s rural western region became vacant when 13-term Democratic Representative Ron Kind decided not seek re-election.
Van Orden won the election with 52% of the vote against Pfaff’s 48%.
According to his campaign website, the Navy veteran endured five combat deployments throughout his 26 years of military duty, including to Afghanistan and Iraq.

In 2020, when he ran against Kind, Van Orden lost by a margin of less than 3 percentage points.
Last month, the former SEAL made news when he stated at a neighborhood prayer breakfast, “There’s not a single God-fearing Christian that is a leftist, because those two things are incompatible.”
He noted that many liberals “just don’t” love our nation.
GOP nominee for Wisconsin's 3rd District Derrick Van Orden said at a local prayer breakfast that "we need to… quit pretending that [leftists] love this country."
