Arizona Secretary of State and Democratic Party member Adrian Fontes conveyed his frustration by stating that he lacks the legal authority to prevent President Trump from appearing on the ballot.
Mr. Fontes expresses his willingness to perform the task if he has the capacity to do so, but he refers to the law that restricts his ability as “stupid.” The Secretary of State is extremely dissatisfied.
The Hill reports that Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes (D) lacks the authority to prevent former President Donald Trump from running for president in the state.
Invoking a provision in the 14th Amendment that prohibits anyone who has “engaged in insurrection or rebellion” against the government from holding public office, there has been a mounting call to disqualify the former president from running in the 2024 election. Contrary to the aforementioned claims, Fontes stated that he is unable to do so due to a prior judgment by the Arizona Supreme Court.
During a discussion on “The Gaggle” podcast by The Arizona Republic and azcentral.com, Fontes explained, “Now, the Arizona Supreme Court said that because there’s no statutory process in federal law to enforce Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, you can’t enforce it.”
“That’s what the Arizona Supreme Court said, so that’s the state of the law in Arizona. Now, do I agree with that? No, that’s stupid,” Fontes added.
Fontes conveyed his personal disdain for the Arizona Supreme Court’s decision, but reaffirmed his commitment to comply with it due to its status as a legally binding mandate in Arizona.
“What I’m saying is I’m going to follow the law,” Fontes declared. “And the law in Arizona is what the law in Arizona is. Whether I like it or not, is irrelevant.”
In recent weeks, President Trump has opposed the possibility of entering into a plea bargain in any of the four pending legal proceedings against him.
In a brief press conference held prior to President Trump’s departure from his Bedminster, New Jersey, golf club en route to Iowa, he addressed a reporter’s question about his willingness to accept a deal.
A reporter asked him, “Is there any chance you take a plea deal in Georgia?”
President Trump answered:
We did nothing wrong. We don’t ever take a plea deal. We don’t take plea deals. It’s a wise guy question. You’re just a wise guy. We don’t take plea deals because I did nothing wrong. It’s called election interference. You know what that is?
Because these indictments are going out by Biden. Who can’t even put two sentences together. This is Joe Biden. Because he can’t win the election by himself. He can’t win the election based on votes. So what they did is they got the attorney general to do it. And then you see how stupid they acted yesterday with the appointment of the special counsel. They call it special counsel. And what a crazy thing that was. And it’s being laughed at all over the world.
The fact is that we have a country that’s in serious trouble. We have a country that’s in major decline. I don’t mean decline, I mean major decline. And we’re going to straighten it out. This group and a lot of people just like this group. We’re going to straighten it out and we’re going to make America great again.
Wise guy.
On Wednesday, ‘The Adam Carollo Show’ debuted a recent interview with erstwhile Fox News host Tucker Carlson. The interview centered on his conversation with Donald Trump, the prominent Republican presidential candidate in 2024 and 45th President of the United States. In addition, the conversation focused on Carlson’s departure from his former network and the future of the United States.
Tucker’s assertion that “assassination” is a possibility if the indictments against Trump do not produce favorable results for the Democrats has attracted considerable attention.
“They protested him, they called him names. He won anyway. They impeached him twice on ridiculous pretenses,” Carlson began. “They fabricated a lot about what happened on January 6th in order to impeach him again. It didn’t work. He came back, then they indicted him. It didn’t work. He became more popular. Then they indicted him three more times, and every single time his popularity rose.”
“So if you begin with criticism, then you go to protest, then you go to impeachment, now you go to indictment, and none of them work, what’s next?” Carlson inquired. “I mean, graph it out, man.”
The conservative pundit expressed a belief that the current trajectory is leading towards a political killing, “We’re speeding toward assassination, obviously, and no one will say that, but I don’t know how you can’t reach that conclusion.”
