Biden Set To Make Illegal Aliens Comfortable with New Housing as Part of $40 Billion Emergency Funding Request to Congress

Published on

President Joe Biden has asked Congress for $2.7 billion in border-related funding, including funds to construct new facilities to house illegal immigrant families while they undergo a “expedited” procedure to determine whether they will be granted asylum or deported.

Axios reported that the administration has requested $40 billion in emergency funding, including approximately $2.7 billion for DHS border programs.

“We do not view this as family detention,” an unnamed DHS official told Axios.

While family members would be permitted to enter and exit these facilities during the day, they would be required to check back in each evening and spend the night at the facility, according to the official.

Officials told Axios that the new program would alleviate pressure on existing shelters located near the U.S. border, while also enabling the government to better monitor irregularly entering families.

The facilities may be managed by independent contractors, including potentially nongovernmental organizations.

Axios contextualized the new initiative as part of the federal government’s ongoing efforts to address the fact that more families are illegally crossing the southern frontier into the United States.

Prior to approximately a decade ago, nearly all border crossers were unmarried adults.

The majority of government facilities for processing illegal immigrants were not designed to accommodate families or children.

U.S. courts have ruled that juveniles can be detained for no longer than twenty days, which compounds the problem.

Unknown was whether the new facilities, which resemble those utilized in some European nations, would permit extended detention.

In 2021, the Biden administration substituted family detention with programs employing “tracking technology and phone check-ins,” while Immigration and Customs Enforcement expedited the deportation of families who did not qualify for asylum.

Approximately 1.8 million illegal immigrants have been “encountered” by U.S. Customs and Border Protection this fiscal year, according to data from the federal government, as reported by The Daily Caller.

Following nearly 2.4 million in fiscal 2022 and nearly 1.75 million in fiscal 2021, this is a significant increase.

And these statistics do not include the illegal immigrants who successfully avoided CBP contact.

Fox News reported that this number would approach 600,000 in 2022 alone.

President Joe Biden designated Vice President Kamala Harris the “border czar” in March 2021, so the majority of these events occurred under her supervision.
