Saget, 65, was found unresponsive in his hotel room at The Ritz-Carlton, Orlando, on January 9. Having just completed a stand-up show, the comedian was scheduled to perform more later on.
Fans around the world were stunned at his passing, and his family described him as the happiest he had been in his life.
Loved tonight’s show @PV_ConcertHall in Jacksonville. Appreciative audience. Thanks again to @RealTimWilkins for opening. I had no idea I did a 2 hr set tonight. I’m happily addicted again to this shit. Check https://t.co/nqJyTiiezU for my dates in 2022. pic.twitter.com/pEgFuXxLd3

Now, his family has revealed that he died of head trauma, as determined by medical examiners.
It is unclear what he hit on his head, but he suffered a bruise on the back of his head. According to TMZ, authorities suspect it was the headboard of the bed, but cannot confirm it.
His family reported he didn’t know about it when he went to sleep.
‘The authorities have determined that Bob passed away from head trauma.
‘They have concluded that he accidentally hit the back of his head on something, thought nothing of it and went to sleep.
‘No drugs or alcohol were involved,’ a statement by the family read.
‘Now that we have the final conclusions from the authorities’ investigation, we felt it only proper that the fans hear those conclusions directly from us.
‘As we continue to mourn together, we ask everyone to remember the love and laughter that Bob brought to this world, and the lessons he taught us all: to be kind to everyone, to let the people you love know you love them, and to face difficult times with hugs and laughter.’
There are two fatal brain injuries that can occur following a bump to the head: bleeding or bruising, or asphyxiation during unconsciousness.
A TMZ report suggested Saget suffered a brain bleed.
The death of Saget is strikingly similar to that of actress Natasha Richardson, who was killed in 2009 after a fall on a ski trip. The actress was wearing a helmet during the accident.
Camilla Parker Bowles, the Duchess of Cornwall and wife of Prince Charles, had a brother, Mark Shand. He died of a head injury in New York in 2014.
Kelly Rizzo, Saget’s widow, shared her feelings on Good Morning America last month.
She wept when she revealed he had no health conditions.
‘All I’ll point to is that last post of his where he said he felt 26,’ she reflected, pointing to his final Instagram message.
Her husband recovered from COVID recently, although it was ‘nothing serious,’ she added.
‘There’s only so many tears your body will let you cry,’ Rizzo said from the L.A. residence she and Saget shared.
This interview, recorded on January 18, marked the first time she had been able to speak about him without becoming overwhelmed by emotion.
‘He just wanted to spread love and laughter. I’m so proud of him,’ she said as she cried.
A little less than a week before he passed away, Bob Saget revealed that he previously tested positive for COVID-19.
It’s unclear at what point he had the disease, but he had just performed a comedy show in Florida the day before he died, making it seem he was not battling it at the time.
Saget was a guest on iHeartRadio’s A Corporate Time with Tom & Dan on Jan. 5, where he talked about his battle with COVID-19. According to iHeart, he previously tested positive, but did not specify the time frame.
“It is not good. It does not feel good. I had it,” he explained. “I don’t know if I had Delta or I might have had a combo. They might have been working together.”
Saget then jokingly stated, “I think at one point Omicron was opening for Delta, but Omicron got too big, Delta is opening now for Omicron.”
The Full House star had discussed the Coronavirus pandemic before.
Last November, he posted on Twitter “I went to the dumbest pharmacist yesterday and asked for my booster and he gave me a child’s seat. I was pissed until I sat at the table and was a foot taller.”

In an episode of Bob Saget’s Here For You from December 13, he commented on having recently received the booster shot. “Be careful out there. Do whatever you gotta do to be safe. I try not to preach you know about [it]. I got my booster shot, I’m 65, so I got it yesterday-day before—and I was hurting.”

Saget shared a photograph on Dec. 22 showing a COVID-19 test, covering it with a handwritten tic-tac-toe game. He joked, “I don’t know what to make of this. Has anybody else gotten this kind of test results?”
His friends and colleagues, including Jimmy Kimmel, Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock, and John Mayer attended the late entertainer’s private funeral in Los Angeles on January 14, which was attended by Full House castmates John Stamos, Dave Coulier, Candace Cameron Bure, Jodie Sweeten, and Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.
In his family, Saget suffered a series of tragedies, like the 1985 death of his sister, Andrea, by an aneurysm in her brain, and in 1994 his sister, Gay, died of scleroderma, an autoimmune disorder.
Saget had been extensively involved with the Scleroderma Research Foundation because of his sister’s death.
