Hunter Biden may soon be prosecuted with federal charges, it appears.
In 2018, a federal investigation of the president’s son was initiated under the auspices of U.S. attorney David Weiss of Delaware, who was nominated by President Trump.
According to reports, Hunter Biden may have committed tax and firearms-related offenses.
The Washington Post reported exclusively on Thursday that federal officials had “sufficient evidence” to prosecute Hunter Biden with a felony.
According to the Post, inside sources “familiar with the case” revealed as much.
In terms of specifics, the inquiry is currently focused on two offences.
The Post said that federal investigators suspect Hunter Biden may not have disclosed money from several of his international transactions.
Furthermore, it is thought that he acquired a handgun while consuming crack cocaine on a daily basis.
Hunter Biden would have needed to answer “no” to the customary question: “Are you an unlawful user or addict of marijuana or any depressive, stimulant, narcotic, or other restricted substance?”
On the forms for purchasing a firearm, it is a crime to lie.
The situation around the case has been tense for some time.
CNN said in July that the inquiry had reached a “critical juncture.”
According to reports at the time, police were evaluating whether or not to file criminal charges against Hunter Biden.
If the Thursday Post article is genuine, it would appear that a choice has been taken.
CNN reports that Hunter Biden’s possible misbehavior is extensive.
Reportedly, Department of Justice authorities investigated suspected offenses including, among others, money laundering, political financing, taxes, and foreign lobbying.
Earlier this year, DOJ investigators were apparently confident in their case against Hunter Biden, according to sources who spoke to the Post.
According to the Post, all that remained was for DOJ prosecutors to determine whether or not the evidence was sufficient to get a conviction.
