A recent court document release in the dispute between Fox News and Dominion Voting Systems sheds additional light on the network’s resolve to’move on’ from Donald Trump.
The document exposure occurs as the network’s celebrity lineup undergoes a significant change. Tucker Carlson, the most popular anchor on primetime cable news, was fired as presenter of the network’s flagship program, which broadcast at 8 p.m.
Rupert Murdoch was reportedly behind the decision, but Fox News did not immediately explain why the network decided to part ways with its most prominent primetime personality.
According to a previous report by the L.A. Times, Carlson’s departure is influenced by the discrimination complaint lodged by the network’s dismissed producer, Abby Grossberg.
“Murdoch is also said to be concerned over Carlson’s coverage of the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, in which the host has promoted the conspiracy theory that it was provoked by government agents,” the report continued.
Paul Ryan, the former Speaker of the House for the Republican Party, has become a prominent figure in the upper administration of Fox News.
Recently published court documents from Dominion Voting System’s lawsuit against Fox News allege that Ryan played a significant role in the network’s decision to move on from Donald Trump.
The document, citing an exhibit, states that “As a Board Member, Ryan believed that the period immediately following the 2020 Presidential Election ‘was a pretty important inflection point, not just for the company Fox, but for the country and for the conservative movement itself,’ and shared this ‘view as a fiduciary’ with Rupert and Lachlan,”
The letter also stated that Ryan “told Rupert and Lachlan that Fox News should not be spreading conspiracy theories.”
According to the court document, Paul Ryan actively participated in negotiations regarding how to deal with the consequences of the 2020 election.
We are entering a “truly bizarre phase of this where [Trump] has actually convinced himself of this farce and will do more bizarre things to delegitimize the election,” the court document reads. “On December 6, 2020, Paul Ryan texted Rupert and Lachlan, telling them, we are entering a truly bizarre phase of this where [Trump] has actually convinced himself of this farce and will do more bizarre things to delegitimize the election,” the legal document states. “I see this as a key inflection point for Fox, where the right thing and the smart business thing to do line up nicely.”
