Anderson Cooper will assume additional responsibilities at CNN as the network continues its rebranding efforts.
The veteran cable personality will host “The Whole Story with Anderson Cooper” on CNN on Sundays, the network said Thursday.
CNN Chairman and CEO Chris Licht cited the new show as a prime example of the network’s journalism philosophy.
“Powered by CNN’s unmatched global journalism operation, ‘The Whole Story’ goes behind the headlines, touching every continent and corner of the planet, as we bring our viewers into the heart of the essential stories of our time,” Licht said in a news release.
Variety reports that the show will act as a cable news competitor to CBS News’ “60 Minutes,” with Cooper delving deeply into themes such as asylum seekers’ intentions to break the U.S. border and King Charles III’s coronation.

Cooper’s appointment to the show, which will launch on April 16, does not appear to be a disguised demotion, since the network prepared for Don Lemon, a host who has been struggling.
Lemon has resorted to attacking his co-hosts after “Don Lemon Tonight” was yanked out from under him. In September, IndieWire stated that the decision was taken because the program was “failing.”
Cooper, who has been a regular reporter on “60 Minutes” under an arrangement with CNN and CBS, is anticipated to maintain his weeknight CNN program, “Anderson Cooper 360,” according to Variety.
Since gaining leadership, Licht has endeavored to rebrand CNN, attempting to alter the notion that the network is affiliated with the Democratic Party.
Last year, Licht canceled the Sunday show of the leftist media celebrity Brian Stelter.
CNN is pressing down on one of its few media characters with a national reputation, according to several critics of the liberal, biased network.

As a result of Donald Trump’s administration, CNN’s economic model faces significant problems, as people abandon the establishment media network en masse.
The network garnered less than half of Fox News’ viewership in the advertiser-prized 25-54 demographic last week, a sign of the channel’s difficulties.
Forbes reports that the week was CNN’s lowest-rated in more than seven years.
