CNN did not receive the response it had hoped for during Wednesday night’s town hall featuring former President Donald Trump.
It was immediately apparent that the event, with CNN’s Kaitlan Collins at the microphone, was designed as an attack job against the 45th president and his re-election efforts.
However, based on the reaction of Trump supporters, the effect was precisely the opposite.
“Thanks, CNN” is not a common expression in the MAGA community for the notoriously liberal network. (It is more commonly expressed as “CNN stinks” or worse.)
During and after the town hall, however, it was a prominent topic among Trump voters on social media.
“Trump just won the presidency. Thanks CNN,” one Twitter user declared shortly after the festivities opened with Trump calling Collins a “nasty person.”
CNN tried to lay a trap and President #Trump just walked all over it.
You're a nasty person" — Trump to Kaitlan Collins (the audience cheers)

“Thanks CNN!”

Obviously, it is far too early to declare Trump the 2024 presidential election winner.
Despite the fact that, according to RealClearPolitics poll averages, he is currently the front-runner for the Republican nomination, he must still win it.
And that’s just the start of the general election campaign, presumably against President Joe Biden, who will have — as he did in 2020 — the overwhelming support of the nation’s establishment news media (the major networks, New York Times-style major newspapers), the cultural influences of Hollywood and late night television, much of social media (though hopefully not Twitter this time), the liberals in charge of academia, and, of course, the dishonest bureaucrats.
Tuesday’s jury verdict in the civil complaint filed against Trump by a writer who claimed he assaulted her in a Manhattan department store around 1996 certainly did not help.
The jury deemed Trump liable in the case for sexual assault and defamation.
(Not to make light of any accusation or any verdict reached by an American jury, but it would be dishonest not to mention that this was a civil case initiated against Trump and determined by a jury in Manhattan, a deep blue bastion in which Donald Trump is reviled. If Biden were to be sued by Tara Reade in rural Alabama on a similar allegation with comparable evidence, it’s a safe guarantee that the jury would find against him.
There is no doubt, however, that Trump’s performance at Wednesday night’s event, alongside the undeniably antagonistic Collins, resonated with his supporters.
Predictably, the American left’s reaction was one of rage.
