Democrat Insiders Admit Longtime Senator Is In Serious Mental Trouble

A California Democrat in Congress recently met with a Senator and anticipated a frank and comprehensive policy discussion similar to those they had many times with her over the last 15 years.

Rather, they had to introduce themselves repeatedly throughout a long encounter, the lawmaker recalled.

The lawmaker said that the Senator repeated small-talk questions such as asking what matters to voters in their district without acknowledging they had already spoken about the same topic.

As a result of the chilling incident, the lawmaker – who spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the topic – began discussing it with colleagues to see if some sort of intervention could be made to persuade the Senator to retire. The Senator’s term runs through 2024. They spoke several weeks before her husband passed away in February.

“I have worked with her for a long time and long enough to know what she was like just a few years ago: always in command, always in charge, on top of the details, basically couldn’t resist a conversation where she was driving some bill or some idea.

All of that is gone,” the legislator said. “She was an intellectual and political force not that long ago, and that’s why my encounter with her was so jarring. Because there was just no trace of that.”

The person the lawmaker was referring to is longtime Democrat Senator Dianne Feinstein.

Recent interviews with four Democratic senators, a former Feinstein staffer, and a Democratic member of Congress have revealed that Feinstein’s memory is rapidly failing.

The officials said it would seem that she is unable to fulfill her job responsibilities without her staff performing many of the duties required to represent nearly 40 million people in California.

Her memory lapses don’t seem to be constant and on some days she seems to be just as sharp as she was.

Feinstein appeared composed as she read pertinent questions at Ketanji Brown Jackson’s confirmation hearing back in March. However, she repeated her comments to Jackson about Jackson’s composure in the face of tough questioning.

Despite this, some of her close friends say she does not recognize even her closest colleagues on her most challenging days.

According to one Democratic senator, “it’s bad and it’s getting worse.”. According to this source, Feinstein doesn’t seem to be able to keep up with conversations.

“There’s a joke on the Hill, we’ve got a great junior senator in Alex Padilla and an experienced staff in Feinstein’s office,” a California Democratic aide said.

Feinstein’s acuity has been a source of concern for everyone who expressed concerns, and doing so has been painful due to their respect for her and her career accomplishments. Because they were concerned about their long-term relationship with her, they spoke anonymously to avoid jeopardizing their friendship.

Before Feinstein’s husband, financier Richard Blum, who had been battling cancer, died, the sources spoke to reporters. They mentioned that they were sympathetic to Feinstein’s experience.

As part of their respect for Feinstein, and as a consequence of the restrictions imposed by their current roles, former staff members who spoke with reporters requested anonymity.

According to a statement Feinstein provided to reporters on March 28, she is still doing an excellent job. However, she declined to give an interview.

“The last year has been extremely painful and distracting for me, flying back and forth to visit my dying husband who passed just a few weeks ago,” she explained.

“But there’s no question I’m still serving and delivering for the people of California, and I’ll put my record up against anyone’s.”

Feinstein’s abilities have been defended by others in on-the-record interviews, which point out that she asks pertinent questions in hearings, votes as needed, and oversees an office that is still very active on legislation and constituent services.

Senator Tim Kaine noted that after a recent snowstorm caused a traffic backup that caused him to be trapped in his car for 27 hours commuting to D.C., Feinstein wrote him a letter expressing her sincere apologies.

Many people object to singling out Feinstein when congressional history speaks volumes about aging male politicians who have retained their seats despite declining health.

Padilla knows Feinstein from their time working together in the mid-1990s.

“I’ve heard some of the same concerns,” Padilla acknowledged, “but as someone who sees her multiple times a week, including on the Senate Judiciary Committee, I can tell you she’s still doing the job and doing it well.”

As a result of a series of accounts about Feinstein’s performance in 2020, concerns about her ability to hold her job have intensified.

There was considerable interest in her two years ago regarding the possibility of becoming chair of the Judiciary Committee under President Biden.

When questioned about her abilities, she defended them. “I don’t feel my cognitive abilities have diminished,” she told the LA Times. “Do I forget something sometimes? Quite possibly.”

Senators can only be removed from office through a two-thirds vote of their peers, aside from resignation, death, and the end of their term.
