Alex Murdaugh, a disbarred South Carolina attorney convicted of double homicide earlier this year, is now seeking a new trial based on “newly discovered evidence” that, according to his legal team, was never presented to the jury.
Murdaugh is currently serving two life sentences for the homicides of his wife, Maggie Murdaugh, and their son, Paul Murdaugh.
WYFF reported that on Tuesday, the attorneys for the convicted murderer, Dick Harpootlian and Jim Griffin, who previously represented him during his initial trial, will hold a press conference to present their strategy for contesting his conviction.
However, they have remained silent about the nature of the evidence they plan to present.
This development follows a period of silence from Murdaugh’s surviving son, Buster Murdaugh, who recently broke his six-month silence to express his belief that his father was wrongfully convicted, despite admitting his father has psychopathic traits, as reported by ABC News.

According to the U.K. Daily Mail, the press conference will take place on the South Carolina State House grounds, adjacent to the Court of Appeals, where Murdaugh’s legal team submitted their request for a retrial.
The sentencing for the June 2021 gunshot deaths of Maggie Murdaugh and Paul Murdaugh at the family’s extensive hunting estate occurred on March 3.
During his time in prison, Murdaugh is said to have reveled in a perverted form of celebrity by responding to fan correspondence, playing video games, and viewing television.
According to reports, his behavior has angered prison officials due to violations of inmate rules, such as giving unauthorized news interviews and using another inmate’s PIN number to make phone calls.
According to Live 5 News, this transgression led to a disciplinary proceeding, which resulted in Murdaugh losing his telephone and canteen privileges for 30 days.

Despite these challenges, Murdaugh reportedly wants to be a part of the general prison population and engage in facility programs.
Buster Murdaugh has also faced intense scrutiny during this ordeal, as some felt he was connected to the death of a schoolmate in 2015 and some alleged he had a supposed gay relationship with the same individual, according to the Daily Mail. CONTINUE READING…
