If you missed it on live TV, you missed one of Tucker Carlson’s most riveting and terrifying interviews.
Monday evening, Elon Musk discussed the hazards posed by artificial intelligence with Fox News anchor Tucker. In response to concerns about liberal bias in AI chatbots, he revealed his intention to develop a non-woke chatbot.
Musk donated early on to OpenAI’s ChatGPT automaton and voiced concerns about the trajectory of AI research. Large-language models are, in his words, being trained for political decorum.
“I came up with the name and the concept,” Musk said, lamenting that OpenAI is now inextricably linked to Microsoft and is no longer a nonprofit organization.
Musk stated that he will begin his own AI program to compete with the one that could wipe out humanity.
“I’m going to start something which I call TruthGPT,” Musk told Carlson, “or a maximum truth-seeking AI that tries to understand the nature of the universe.”
“It’s simply starting late. But I will try to create a third option,” Musk said.
In addition, Musk is calling for regulation of artificial intelligence. He warned, “AI is more dangerous than, say, mismanaged aircraft design or production maintenance or bad car production,” adding, “It has the potential of civilizational destruction.”
Musk also warned that “a super intelligent AI can write incredibly well and potentially manipulate public opinions,” Reuters reported.
He tweeted over the weekend that he conferred with former U.S. President Barack Obama when Obama was in office and urged him to “encourage AI regulation”
Musk co-founded OpenAI in 2015, but resigned from the board of directors in 2018. He tweeted in 2019 that he had quit OpenAI to focus on Tesla and SpaceX.
He also tweeted at the time, “Tesla was competing for some of the same people as OpenAI & I didn’t agree with some of what OpenAI team wanted to do.”
Musk tweeted a few months ago, “What we need is TruthGPT.”
