Elon Musk finally closed on the $44 billion deal to purchase the social media network late on Thursday, bringing an end to the complicated drama surrounding his attempt to acquire Twitter.
Musk tweeted about the event, as he has done for many other significant anniversaries along the rocky road.
“[T]he bird is freed,” he wrote.

According to The New York Times, Musk started the cleaning process on Thursday night.
According to the article, which cited unnamed sources, Twitter’s CEO Parag Agrawal, CFO Ned Segal, head of law and policy Vijaya Gadde, and general counsel Sean Edgett were all let go.
At least one of those dismissed was led from the San Francisco office of Twitter.
Musk has made it quite clear that he wants the social media site to remain a place for open discourse, something from which it has strayed in recent years as it has stifled conservative views.
Right-leaning Twitter users celebrated the deal’s completion in large numbers.

The left was less enthused with Musk’s purchase, as that last tweet demonstrated.
Letting a reckless ideologue take full control of what is essentially a public utility – less than two weeks before election day – is insane.

Elon Musk is a supervillain.
He’s an agent of chaos, a fascist, a racist, and a greedy rapey entitled narcissistic silver spooned creep.
He’s an enemy of democracy and a national security threat.
He’s also a big dummy.
Twitter should delete his account immediately.

The beginning of the Musk era will be marked by a company-wide town hall on Friday, according to The Washington Post.
In addition, the corporation needs to make some internal adjustments, like dissolving the current board of directors.
According to the Times, Musk will own Twitter as a privately held company, which could significantly alter how the company communicates with the outside world as it won’t be required to report to shareholders.

For Twitter, the purchase came as the company was going to fall far short of its revenue targets for the year, the Post reported.
The company had been planning major cuts to staff — including third-party contractors who serve as content moderators — to reduce labor costs by $700 million. CONTINUE READING…
