The Manhattan inquiry into former President Donald Trump and the search for charges against him has lasted almost five years. Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg rekindled the probe when he took office this year.
Bragg has encountered opposition on the path of Trump-related investigations, and his predecessor Cyrus R. Vance, Jr. is voicing these views in his new book.
Vance had initiated the tax inquiry into Trump, and the Associated Press stated that Bragg had opted not to continue immediately due to worries about the case’s strength.
The pressure to pursue the issue to court led Bragg to proceed, and he won the tax lawsuit against a Trump corporation last year.
This Monday, Bragg assembled a new grand jury to continue the search for charges against former President Trump. According to the Associated Press, the new investigation centers on payments Trump reportedly made to two women in 2016, and there are reports that he may be arrested on Tuesday.
A court source told Fox News that a meeting was sought on Thursday but has not yet been set. According to a person with knowledge of the preparations, the goal of the meeting is to “discuss logistics for some time next week, which would mean that they are anticipating an indictment next week.”
In reaction to the announcement, a representative for Trump, Steven Cheung, released a statement to Fox News Digital in which he called District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s probe a “witch hunt” and said that Bragg was under the sway of President Biden and “radical Democrats.”
“President Donald J. Trump is completely innocent, he did nothing wrong, and even the biggest, most Radical Left Democrats are making that clear,” Cheung said.
“From Russia, Russia, Russia, to the Mueller Hoax, to Impeachment Hoaxes 1 and 2, and even the Unlawful Mar-a-Lago Raid, Democrats have investigated and attacked President Trump since before he was elected – and they’ve failed every time.”
The former president replied angrily to news of his detention and the charges against him. On his TruthSocial page, he urged conservatives to resist to yet another “witch hunt.”
