Following her husband’s most recent illness, the wife of Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman fled the country in reaction to the avalanche of media publicity.
Gisele Barreto Fetterman disclosed that she and her children fled their house in the days following her husband’s hospitalization for mental depression outside Washington, D.C.
“1 week ago today when the news dropped, the kids were off from school and media trucks circled our home. I did the first thing I could think of … pack them in the car and drive,” she tweeted on Friday.
I am not really sure how to navigate this journey but am figuring it out slowly. 1 week ago today when the news dropped, the kids were off from school and media trucks circled our home. I did the first thing I could think of … pack them in the car and drive.

Canada was the farthest destination Gisele Fetterman visited.
“Pro Tip: always have passports ready just in case you have to run away,” she said.
We drove straight into … Canada (and lovely Buffalo NY) (Pro Tip: always have passports ready just in case you have to run away 😅) We talked about lots of hard things and how we will all have to face hard things. About the need to be gentle … with all and with ourselves. pic.twitter.com/0PWQXHrbqT

On the trip, the senator’s wife revealed that the family went ziplining above Niagara Falls.
“We also talked about how joy and fun can and must still exist, even when someone we love is in pain. And tomorrow? Who knows. Will try all over again,” she wrote.

Little over a month after being inducted into the Senate, John Fetterman’s staff revealed that he had checked into the hospital last Friday.

It is anticipated that Fetterman would undergo hospital care for several weeks.
Also, he was hospitalized earlier this month after experiencing dizziness at a Senate Democrats gathering.
The Democrat has struggled with the aftereffects of a stroke he experienced as a candidate in May 2017, including difficulties with auditory processing and clear speech.
Fox News reports that Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro would not ask Fetterman to resign from the Senate due to his medical concerns.
