Geraldo Rivera has made a career out of spouting comments that defy logic, but in his latest commentary on Republican politics, the Fox News anchor has once again exceeded himself.
When former President Donald Trump holds a commanding lead in the polls as the front-runner for the Republican nomination, and when strong challengers such as South Carolina’s former Governor Nikki Haley and others such as Florida governor Ron DeSantis are rumored to enter the race, no one would seriously consider a candidate from left field for the Republicans. However, Geraldo has.
Rivera has said who he believes would be the strongest alternative Republican candidate for president, and it appeared that conservatives were not enthusiastic about the concept.
“Chris Christie could be the strongest GOP alternative for POTUS; savvy, swagger, moderation, toughness,” he said.
Christie, the former governor of New Jersey, was a contender in the 2016 Republican presidential primary until he withdrew and endorsed President Donald Trump.
Yet since the end of Trump’s term, he has been a vociferous opponent of the former president, diminishing his influence inside the Republican Party and among Republican voters. Republicans do not consider him to be a candidate.
Predictably. Twitter exploded with replies to Rivera’s absurd assertion, which was widely derided.
“Geraldo was doing some serious drugs over the weekend,” one respondent said.

Some postings were kinder and responded with facts.
“Jerry stop. I like Chris Christie as a person but his politics are too squishy to win a GOP nomination. He’s fine for being a Republican in NEW JERSEY but he is not where the majority of the party is politically,” another Twitter user said.
