Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who just won re-election, is releasing his autobiography at the beginning of 2023. Given the history of persons releasing an autobiography before a presidential run, the timing of this publication has, to say the least, raised eyebrows.
Barack Obama’s book was published before to his 2008 presidential campaign, and it is anticipated that Michelle Obama may follow in his footsteps by publishing an autobiography in the coming months.
Now, DeSantis’s book is being published.
Jon Doughtery reported for Conservative Brief that the book will be released in February, just in time for potential presidential candidates to begin building a war chest and campaign organization for the 2024 election. The book will chronicle the rise of the popular Republican governor from Little League baseball star to one of the most influential figures in politics.
Additionally, The Daily Wire reported on the book:
“The Courage to Be Free: Florida’s Blueprint for America’s Revival” is anticipated to recount the 44-year-old leader’s path from baseball diamonds in Florida through Yale, Harvard Law, service in the U.S. Navy, three terms in the U.S. House of Representatives, and his current position. While DeSantis has not yet declared his intention to challenge former President Trump for the Republican presidential nomination, such publications frequently precede White House campaigns.
“He shares his thinking from when he was fighting back against COVID mandates and restrictions, critical race theory, woke corporations’ and what Broadside describes as ‘the partisan legacy media,” noted the publisher, Broadside Books, said in a statement.
The publisher, a division of Rupert Murdoch’s HarperCollins Publishing, announced that the book will be released on February 28.
This month, DeSantis won a second term with a 19-point victory over former Republican governor-turned-Democratic congressman Charlie Crist. Many political observers viewed the landslide victory as an endorsement of the governor who kept Florida schools open during the pandemic, rejected mask and vaccine mandates, and challenged the left on cultural issues such as the teaching of critical race theory and gender ideology in public schools.
The Daily Wire continued, adding more details:
So far, only Trump has announced a 2024 bid. But a new poll from Iowa, where the presidential primary season gets underway every four years with the Iowa caucuses, showed Hawkeye State Republicans narrowly favor DeSantis over Trump, given the choice for 2024. Other polls have also shown that Republicans favor DeSantis over Trump and DeSantis faring better in a 2024 matchup against President Joe Biden. But some polls also show Trump more likely to emerge from a crowded primary field, should one materialize.
In a short victory address on Election Night, DeSantis described his objectives and first-term accomplishments. He stated, in part:
Florida was a haven of normalcy when the rest of the world went insane. We served as a bastion of freedom for the people of our country and the whole planet. We were attacked. We endured the blows. We made it through the storms. However, we held our ground. We did not retreat. We had the conviction to guide us and the bravery to take the initiative.
We did not retreat. We had the conviction to guide us and the bravery to take the initiative. We made pledges. We made commitments to the people of Florida, and we have kept those commitments. Today, after four years, the people have rendered their verdict: freedom will endure.
