The powerful criminal defense attorney for Hunter Biden, Joshua Levy, apparently no longer represents the president’s son after “unease and disagreement” beset the legal defense team of at least four attorneys.
Levy is no longer representing the famed Biden family business member, the New York Times reported on Wednesday. Levy was engaged to oppose congressional inquiries that attempt to disclose the complexity of the family’s business machinations.
Levy has reportedly withdrawn from the case owing to infighting among Hunter’s legal team, particularly with Abbe Lowell, who was appointed in December to defend Hunter and the Biden family against nine congressional investigations, including money laundering and wire fraud. Lowell has defended prominent persons embroiled in political controversies in the past, including Bill Clinton and Jared Kushner.
Levy apparently disapproved of Lowell’s legal efforts and believed that they may fail. In February, Lowell participated in the campaign to issue “litigation hold” letters to Rudy Giuliani, Tony Bobulinski, and 12 others to preserve “Laptop from Hell” documents, a move viewed by some critics as a public relations strategy to modify the unpleasant narrative for the Biden family.
Mike Davis, the founder and president of the pro-Trump Article III Project, told Breitbart News that the letters were a “desperate, frivolous, and laughable” attempt that would harm the family’s legal position because the lawsuit would result in discovery, a legal procedure in which Hunter would be deposed on camera.
The Times reported on why Hunter initially hired Levy:
President Biden’s personal lawyer, Bob Bauer, had recommended Mr. Levy for the job. But Mr. Levy had clashed with Kevin Morris, a lawyer and close adviser to Hunter Biden who has lent him money to pay his back taxes and some other bills, according to a person familiar with the strategy. Mr. Morris and Hunter Biden brought on Mr. Lowell late last year, prompting Mr. Levy’s departure.
Lowell’s participation in Hunter’s defense has not only resulted in Levy’s departure, but it has also sparked conflict with attorney Chris Clark, another prominent attorney who heads Hunter’s criminal defense. Clark’s professional background includes serving as a partner at the same legal firm in Washington, DC where Rep. Liz Cheney’s husband is employed. According to Clark’s company description, he represents Hunter in the “grand jury investigation regarding tax issues.”
“Chris Clark, the lead criminal defense lawyer representing Mr. Biden in the Justice Department investigation, has kept Mr. Lowell at a distance in dealing with that matter,” the Times reported. Only a few months into the House Oversight Committee’s inquiry into the Biden family company, Hunter’s extremely costly legal team has began to fracture due to Clark’s “distance” and Lowell and Levy’s departure.
When asked about Lowell’s role in Hunter’s legal defense and the subsequent team disarray, White House spokesman Ian Sams said that Republican inquiries into the Biden family were “politically motivated partisan assaults” that “deserve to be called out.”
Peter Schweizer, Breitbart Senior Contributor and President of the Government Accountability Institute, released Hidden Empires and Profiles in Corruption in 2018 and 2020, respectively. Each book debuted at number one on the New York Times bestseller list and revealed that Hunter Biden and Joe Biden travelled on Air Force Two to China in 2013 less than two weeks before Hunter’s business signed a $1.5 billion contract with an unit of the Chinese government’s Bank of China. Moreover, Schweizer’s research revealed the Biden family’s other extensive and profitable overseas partnerships and corruption.
Breitbart Political Editor Emma-Jo Morris’s investigative work at the New York Post on the Hunter Biden “laptop from Hell” also made international headlines when she and Miranda Devine revealed that Joe Biden was intimately involved in Hunter’s businesses, even having a 10 percent stake in a company the scion formed with the highest-ranking Chinese Communist Party officials.
