Without any ambiguity, House Speaker Mike Johnson declared his preference for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024.
“I’m all in for President Trump,” the Louisiana Republican said Tuesday on CNBC’s “Squawk Box.”
In reply to an inquiry from “Squawk Box” co-host Joe Kernen, the speaker unequivocally expressed his support for former President Donald Trump.
“Everybody’s watching this show right now,” Kernen said, hoping for Johnson to make news with an endorsement.
The speaker obliged, though he did not frame it as news.
“I have done it. Yeah. I have. I have endorsed him wholeheartedly,” Johnson replied.
“Look, I was one of the closest allies that President Trump had in Congress,” the congressman added. “He had a phenomenal first term. Those first two years, as you all know, we brought about the greatest economic numbers in the history of the world, not just the country, because his policies worked.”
Johnson did, in fact, manifest his allegiance to the former president during the Trump administration. An example of his actions is his membership in Trump’s impeachment defense team and his vote against the certification of the 2020 election results.
Johnson, who has been a member of Congress since 2017, has consistently accumulated a conservative voting record. Thus, his support for the effective policies of Trump was consistent with his own values.
“I expect he’ll be our nominee. Yeah. And he’s gonna win it and we have to make Biden a one-term president. We have to do that,” the congressman said.
Since assuming the position of speaker in late October, Johnson has garnered significant media attention primarily due to his adherence to Christian principles and fiscal conservatism.
Obviously, Trump has been labeled with four indictments and has come to represent political persecution. Due to the Democrats’ strategic utilization of government agencies against the former president and his supporters, a considerable number of Republican voters hold the belief that the republic’s very existence in 2024 is at stake.
Despite the insanity of the failed administration of President Joe Biden, which included these and other policies, Trump has maintained a commanding lead in the contest for the Republican presidential nomination. Furthermore, recent surveys indicate that the former president leads Biden in crucial battleground states.
Notwithstanding this, Johnson’s support may reinforce what a substantial number of individuals consider to be the inexorable nature of Trump’s nomination.
Moreover, it will serve as a poignant reminder to Republican voters of the tranquility and affluence that characterized the tenure of Trump. Indeed, the former president was granted an endorsement by Home Depot co-founder Bernie Marcus last week, on comparable grounds.
Certain Republicans fail to recognize the straightforward merits of Trump’s record, which would be readily defended by any conservative candidate.
We might express our appreciation to Johnson for the reminder.
