During the first part of his presidency, Joe Biden stayed far away from the southern border, designating Vice President Harris as the man in charge of handling the situation. As Harris remained physically absent from the border states, the White House press corps began repeating that there was in fact no border crisis.
Despite the pleas of border states for assistance and the actions of the governors of Texas and Florida in diverting the large flow of illegal immigrants to other self-declared “sanctuary states,” the federal government continues to say there is no problem.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre has consistently said that the southern border is “not open,” while being criticized for making such a claim in the face of video evidence and testimonies indicating the contrary. The recent ruling that Title 42 should not be repealed until next summer and the court’s statement that although the pandemic is over, there are now “other issues” in border control that the policy addresses, and therefore time is needed to determine what policy should replace it, are insufficient to convince Jean-Pierre that an actual emergency exists.
In December, Jean-Pierre publicly declared, ” I want to be very clear here. The fact is that the removal of Title 42 does not mean the border is open. Anyone who suggests otherwise is simply doing the work of these smugglers who, again, are spreading misinformation which is very dangerous.” In addition to the fact that Title 42 was not repealed for this reason, Jean-comment Pierre’s indicates that smugglers themselves are boasting that the border is open and that the proof that it is is in collusion with them.
Pradheep J. Shanker, a writer to National Review, tweeted: “This is gaslighting. The border is more open today [than} it has been in the last decade. Don’t believe me? See Biden’s own DHS stats that confirm this.”
Now, in the early days of the second half of his presidential tenure, Biden has voluntarily approached the real boundary. On Sunday afternoon, Vice President Joe Biden made a quick visit to the southern border, spending a short time in El Paso, Texas. His visit did not resolve the issue of border security, as he was welcomed by hundreds of demonstrators who demanded his impeachment.
Protesters carried placards that said “IMPEACH 46” and “Trump 2024” It was Biden’s first trip as vice president. Biden went with law officers for four hours while inspecting access points. The border patrol showed the president how they conduct car searches.
However, according to those who deal with the situation on a daily basis, Biden failed to identify the key locations where unlawful immigration is the greatest concern. Biden only visited legitimate entrance points.
Brandon Judd, president of the National Border Patrol Council, told Fox News that Biden neglected to visit a number of very important locations. “You can look across the ports of entry on the entire southwest border, and that’s not where we’re seeing the illegal immigration. We’re seeing the illegal immigration between the ports of entry,” he stated. “That’s the Border Patrol. That’s the component of CBP that handles all of this. He did not have any scheduled visits with them.”
“You’re never going to be able to develop true policies and programs and operations unless you’re willing to see exactly what is going on. And he refused to do that,” Judd said.
Biden has not prioritized the border situation. Biden stated that there were more significant matters to address than the two million interactions with illegal aliens in the past year. The government has attempted to dismiss the difficulties as the result of the previous administration, despite illegal immigration rates being mostly under control under Trump, according to Post Millennium.
