As per a statement issued by Buckingham Palace, King Charles III of the United Kingdom has received a cancer diagnosis.
The 75-year-old monarch, who was admitted to the hospital for treatment of an enlarged prostate, does not have prostate cancer, according to the BBC.
“During The King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted. Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer,” the statement, posted online, said.
“His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties. Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual,” the statement continued.

“The King is grateful to his medical team for their swift intervention, which was made possible thanks to his recent hospital procedure. He remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible.”
“His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer,” the statement concluded.
Prince Harry, the younger son of the monarch, will reportedly travel to England to be with his father, as reported by Page Six.
Reportedly, Harry, who has severed ties with the royal family, discussed the cancer prognosis with his father.
ABC reports that Charles departed the London Clinic on January 29 following treatment for an enlarged prostate.
At that time, the palace said he would resume his public schedule after a “short period of recuperation.”
CNN reports that he was observed in public for the first time since his treatment on Sunday.
Encompassed by Queen Camilla, the monarch made his way to the church in the Norfolk village of Sandringham, waving to those who beheld him.
CNN reported that Charles returned to London on Monday to begin outpatient treatment.
