Major Turn in Defamation Case: Trump Plans to Call Anderson Cooper as Witness

Published on

Former President Donald Trump will summon Anderson Cooper as a witness in a lawsuit trial over accusations that Trump raped a writer in a department store changing room in the 1990s.

Attorneys for Trump and E. Jean Carroll released a list of witnesses they want to call in the trial on Thursday. According to the Daily Beast, Cooper was on Trump’s list.

According to The Daily Beast, Trump will focus on business agreements made by Carroll after she originally made her accusation in 2019.

The Daily Beast says it was told by a source who knows the Trump legal strategy that Trump wanted to concentrate on an interview in which Carroll told Cooper, “I think most people think of rape as being sexy. They think of the fantasies.”

Carroll first sued Trump for defamation after he said she was lying about the incident to sell a book.

According to the New York Post, Carroll is also suing Trump for sexual violence under the New York Adult Survivors Act, which was created last year to allow claimed victims of sexual abuse to pursue claims in situations that would otherwise be too old under the statute of limitations.

According to ABC News, Trump’s counsel stated that he will produce a DNA sample in connection with the litigation, but only under particular conditions.

Carroll’s attorney, Joseph Tacopina, stated that Carroll’s side must first present missing pages from a DNA study on semen stains found on a clothing Carroll claims she wore the day of the alleged attack, which she claims occurred in 1995 or 1996.

Carroll’s attorney, Roberta Kaplan, described the demand as a “legally frivolous delay tactic” intended to sway jurors.

“The time has come for him to face a jury,” Kaplan wrote.

Carroll’s attorneys, according to Tacopina, have neglected to disclose the missing DNA report pages because “she knows [Trump’s] DNA is not on the dress because the alleged sexual assault never occurred.”

According to Kaplan, there was no DNA evidence in the case.

In an October deposition, Trump disputed that the purported attack actually occurred.

“She said that I did something to her that never took place. There was no anything. I know nothing about this nut job,” he said.

“I think she’s sick, mentally sick,” Trump also said.
