Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) provided an update on the apparently interminable humanitarian issue at the US-Mexico border, which has grown under the Democrats. As long expected, Boebert announced on Twitter that the House Oversight Committee will finally discuss the U.S.-Mexico border in early February.
McCarthy’s House Steering Committee assigned Boebert a position on the coveted committee in order to attack the Democrats.
Boebert had vehemently opposed McCarthy’s bid for House Speaker, and many feared that McCarthy would seek retribution against those who did not support his leadership.
McCarthy has placed firebrands in important positions to harm Democrats and even some RINOs, but he has not yet taken payback.
McCarthy, whom Boebert vehemently opposed for the speakership, had hinted at impending investigations into three-letter agencies such as the CIA and FBI, Conservative Brief reported at the time of the news. The appointment of Boebert to Oversight gives the outspoken Colorado Republican a disproportionate amount of influence over these investigations.
Boebert has been proactive in communicating the Committee’s initial actions:
“Mark your calendars. The week of Feb 6th. A @GOPoversight hearing on the invasion at our southern border. Time to get to the bottom of this mess. Buckle up!” Rep. Lauren Boebert (@RepBoebert) tweeted on January 19, 2023.

Jon Doughtery revealed further facts for Conservative Brief.
Even after her public rebukes of McCarthy in the media and on the House floor in the days preceding the commencement of the 118th Congress, during which she voted for someone other than McCarthy more than a dozen times before giving in, Boebert announced McCarthy’s appointment in a tweet.
Before a particularly stressful time during a vote for speaker, Boebert stated, “Let’s stop with the campaign lies and methods to turn people against us, including my favorite president [Donald Trump] calling us and telling us to stop.
“I think it actually needs to be reversed—the president needs to tell [Representative] Kevin McCarthy that ‘sir, you do not have the votes and it’s time to withdraw,’” she added at the time.
All of that, however, appears to have been settled, as demonstrated by the assignment of Boebert, and it provides more proof of McCarthy’s last-minute negotiations with GOP holdouts to gain their support.
“We changed the way bills will be passed,” Boebert said in a news release at the time. “We changed the way the government will be funded. We changed the ways committees will be formed. We secured votes on term limits, the fair tax, the Texas Border Plan, and so much more.”

“I look forward to working with Chairman James Comer and supporting his mission to eliminate mismanagement in the federal government by investigating the border and fentanyl crises, COVID relief fraud, government collusion with big tech to censor Americans, the botched Afghanistan withdrawal, the energy crisis, COVID origins, and the Biden family’s shady business schemes,” she added.
