Barack Obama has issued Joe Biden a warning.
The Washington Post reported that during a June visit to the White House, the former president warned Vice President Biden that Trump may pose a greater threat than he currently realizes.
Obama expressed concern about Donald Trump’s political assets, including an intensely loyal following, a Trump-friendly conservative media ecosystem, and a polarized country, according to The Washington Post, highlighting his fear that Trump could be a more formidable candidate than many Democrats anticipate.
Obama assured Biden that he is devoted to assisting him win a second term and will “do all he can” to ensure his re-election.
According to reports, the visit was part of a “regular catch-up” between the two men, who served as president and vice president from 2009 to 2017.
Obama also made it plain that his concerns were not about Biden’s political abilities, but rather Trump’s iron grasp on the Republican Party, according to anonymous sources who spoke to the Post on the condition of anonymity.
The 61-year-old former president is viewed as a formidable campaigner for Democratic candidates and continues to enjoy immense popularity among party activists.
Obama is anticipated to intensify his political campaigning in the future months, including his attendance at a Martha’s Vineyard fundraising event later this month, the proceeds of which will benefit the National Democratic Redistricting Committee.
Eric Schultz, his senior adviser, declined to comment on the Post’s allegations, but told the paper that he will strive to be innovative in future campaign strategies.
Schultz said in a statement, “We place a huge emphasis on finding creative ways to reach new audiences, especially tools that can be directly tied to voter mobilization or volunteer activations.”
“We are deliberate in picking our moments because our objective is to move the needle.”
The Biden campaign’s spokesman, TJ Ducklo, acknowledged that Obama will play a significant role in the 2024 election cycle.
