Once-Acclaimed ABC News Reporter Will Plead Guilty in Horrific Child Porn Case

Published on

Former ABC News national security correspondent James Gordon Meek is currently embroiled in a distressing case involving child pornography and unsettling messages that hint at his alleged perverted desires.

According to the New York Post, the 53-year-old journalist is scheduled to appear in a Virginia federal court later this week to enter a guilty plea.

According to the court docket, Meek has reached a plea agreement with federal prosecutors. Meek is scheduled to partake in a “change of plea hearing” before U.S. District Judge Claude M. Hilton in Alexandria, Virginia. He previously registered a plea of innocence to the child pornography charges.

Meek could have been sentenced to a minimum of five years and a maximum of twenty years in prison if he had been convicted at trial. However, if he accepts a plea bargain, he may receive a lighter sentence.

In February, nearly ten months after federal authorities executed a search at Meek’s Arlington residence on April 27, 2022 and seized his electronic devices, the shocking allegations against him were revealed.

Dropbox alerted officials to the presence of child pornographic content on Meek’s account, which prompted the investigation.

According to the Post, a subsequent examination of Meek’s phone revealed disturbing conversations that suggested he intended to sexually abuse children.

The newspaper reported that an FBI affidavit filed around the time of Meek’s detention detailed distressing messages in which he allegedly received and sent explicit photos and videos of juveniles.

According to the Post, one particularly alarming message included a disturbing inquiry about raping a young girl.
