After former President Donald Trump was indicted by the Justice Department, former Vice President Mike Pence assailed him on Twitter.
On Tuesday, special counsel Jack Smith unveiled a four-count indictment — his second against Trump — related to the former president’s decision to contest the results of the 2020 election and the Capitol disturbance in January 2021.
Trump is accused with conspiracy to defraud the United States, obstruction and attempt to obstruct an official proceeding, and conspiracy against rights.
Tuesday evening, Pence sided with the federal government in a series of tweets.
Pence stated, “Today’s indictment serves as an important reminder: anyone who puts himself over the Constitution should never be President of the United States.”

Pence criticized Trump’s 2024 campaign, deeming it a “distraction,” and promoted his own campaign, which has struggled to resonate with voters.
As Americans, his candidacy means less attention paid to Joe Biden's disastrous economic policies afflicting millions across the United States and to the pattern of corruption with Hunter.

As your president, I will not yield an inch in defending America, our people, or our values, and I promise you: I will do so in a way consistent with my oath to the Constitution and the character and decency of the American people. We will restore a threshold of integrity and…

The former vice president’s response to the indictment, which came a day after President Joe Biden and his son Hunter were credibly accused of corruption and influence peddling, was criticized online by conservatives.
No one likes you, go away. You sold out for some good PR. Sad!

In announcing the charges against Trump, Smith stated that the former president told “lies” about the 2020 election in order to incite a “attack on our nation’s capital on January 6, 2021.”
Trump faces a second federal indictment for allegedly mishandling classified documents and accusations of falsifying business records from the state of New York.
