As the nation watches the legal assault on former President Donald Trump unfold in New York, First Lady Jill Biden travels throughout the country for speaking engagements. As a result of a safety concern, however, a few of the engagements will be postponed at a later date.
On Monday, the First Lady’s plane was diverted owing to cracks in the windshield that developed after she began her flight.
“Due to an aircraft issue en route Michigan, the first lady was diverted back to Denver, Colorado,” Vanessa Valdivia, the first lady’s press secretary, said in a tweet on Monday afternoon. “Her trip to Michigan will be postponed to a later date.”
“Everyone is safe. We’re back on the ground in Denver,” the special assistant to the president added.
As part of the “Investing in America” trip, Biden visited the city on Monday to promote the president’s economic measures and worker training programs. She spoke with Governor Jared Polis, a Democrat.
Fox News says that a spokesperson for the Air Force’s 89th Airlift Wing told CBS News later in the day that a broken windshield was definitely the reason of the detour.
“The aircrew elected to divert the aircraft back to Denver International Airport due to a non-threatening windshield crack to mitigate risks associated with the integrity of the windshield and icing conditions at their destination,” she said. “The crew returned safely without any injuries to the passengers or aircrew onboard.”
According to CBS News, Biden’s staff has informed the White House that the first lady’s Monday afternoon travel to Michigan for another engagement will be postponed until a later date. She will instead return home.
Monday evening, the Air Force spokesperson will return to Joint Base Andrews in Maryland on a military aircraft.
The travel to Saginaw, Michigan, to speak at Delta College on the institution’s workplace training programs, which are fundamental to the Biden Education Pathway, will be rescheduled.
Wednesday, Biden will go to Maine and Vermont for similar ceremonies.
“I’ll be focusing on community colleges and jobs. We need to work together to help our students get the education and training they need for the careers they want,” she said Monday. She is expected to keep those travel plans, the New York Post noted.
No statement has been made on the fact that such a problem occurred during the flight of a U.S. military aircraft. Former President Donald Trump has spoken about his personal plane, which he purchased used and had renovated to his specifications. Trump unveiled the repaired plane as a personal vehicle last year and is utilizing it for his campaign.
During the 2024 presidential campaign, the luxurious Boeing 757 has been refitted so that Trump, his crew, and the press corps may effectively travel to speaking engagements. Trump himself gave the Daily Mail a tour of the plane in March, highlighting the parallels to Air Force One that he had enjoyed during his time in the White House as well as renovations and enhancements that enhance the jet’s utility and efficiency.
During a tour of the jet and a drive with the former president to Waco, Texas, and back to the east coast, the Daily Mail said that Trump said the outcome of the plane’s overhaul is a “plane that puts Air Force One to shame.”
Tuesday, Fox News Digital’s calls for comment to Joint Base Andrews and the 89th Airlift Wing went unanswered. Perhaps the U.S. Air Force should obtain the name of the business that refurbished Trump’s jet for guidance.
WWLCBS News reports that Jill Biden has received increasing backlash on social media for her statements that she wants the Iowa women’s basketball team to be invited to the White House along with the national champions from Louisiana State University, who defeated Iowa in the championship game.
In a national-participation-trophy moment, Biden had posted,” I know we have the champions come to the White House, we always do, So we hope LSU will come. But, you know, I’m going to tell Joe I think Iowa should come too, because they played such a good game.”
Other teams that did not win the title but had outstanding seasons, like as the University of South Carolina Lady Gamecocks, who were unbeaten until losing to Iowa in the second-to-last game of the Final Four, were not mentioned. One may argue that they, too, deserve recognition.
However, CBS now claims that Jill Biden has retracted her proposal and that only champions would be admitted. They have not yet responded to the invitation.
