A new report claims that Republican Governor Ron DeSantis will announce his candidacy for president in 2024 on Twitter Wednesday evening during a conversation with Twitter CEO Elon Musk.
According to multiple sources close to the planned announcement cited by NBC News, DeSantis will join Musk for the announcement on Twitter Spaces.
David Sacks, a tech entrepreneur, will moderate the discussion, which will commence at 6:00 p.m. ET.
Twitter Spaces is the company’s audio platform and will provide access to Florida’s governor for Musk’s 140 million Twitter followers.
Reportedly close to Musk, Sacks also supports DeSantis’ quest for the Republican nomination.
Writing for NBC News, Dasha Burns and Matt Dixon further reported:
“The announcement will coincide with a retreat for high-end fundraisers pledged to support DeSantis in Miami. Bundlers will gather at the Four Seasons hotel from May 24-26, receiving briefings from campaign staff, combined with time to call around to raise money for the campaign.”
According to reports, DeSantis will conclude his campaign announcement by releasing a video.
NBC reported that he will begin recruiting voters in early primary states after Memorial Day.
Musk has stated in the past that he would support a DeSantis White House candidacy.
Last year, the billionaire announced on Twitter that he voted Republican for the first time in his life during a special election to fill the then-vacant seat in Texas’s 34th Congressional District. He voted for former Republican Rep. Mayra Flores.

Multiple polls indicate that former President Donald Trump currently holds a commanding lead over all other declared or potential candidates in the Republican presidential primary.
It is widely believed that DeSantis is the only party candidate with a realistic possibility of challenging the former president.
