Ahead of an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Fox News host Sean Hannity discussed his cordial rapport with Democratic California Governor Gavin Newsom.
“From the first time we met, we just hit it off, and there was a certain relationship that developed that was like, ‘Oh, come on, you don’t believe all that,’” Hannity said of the governor during an interview at Fox News’ headquarters in New York, the Times reported Sunday.
“It was always friendly and never contentious. You can say anything to him. You can have fun with him,” Hannity added.
Hannity and Newsom have made significant joint appearances in recent months, including a June interview for Fox News in Sacramento, California, and a September 27 follow-up at the Ronald Reagan Library in Simi Valley, California, subsequent to the Republican presidential debate. This is noteworthy considering their divergent political views.
Hannity reportedly convinced Newsom to engage in a debate with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, the Republican presidential candidate, during a special segment on Fox News on Thursday titled “The Great Red vs. Blue State Debate,” as reported by the Times.
The Thursday segment was “unusual,” according to the newspaper, due to the rarity of such appearances by two prominent figures from both parties who are not running against each other.
According to Politico, DeSantis and Newsom are expected to discuss a variety of topics, including immigration, the economy, gun rights, and Newsom’s proposal for a 28th Amendment to the Constitution to regulate firearms, under the moderating of Hannity.
According to a Monday report by the outlet, the association between Newsom and Hannity can be traced back to a time when Newsom would visit his former spouse, Kimberly Guilfoyle, at the Fox News studios in Manhattan. At this time, the two are betrothed in marriage to Donald Trump Jr.
“I can’t give you a date or a specific memory,” Hannity said of his first time meeting and getting to know Newsom, according to Politico.
“All I do remember is that on a personal level, he’s extraordinarily personable. Just like Governor DeSantis is.”
“We hit it off. We just kind of hit it off. I respect both people at a very high level. I really do,” Hannity said.
The reports regarding their relationship that surfaced this week have encountered negative reception on certain social media platforms.

The announcement of Newsom and Hannity’s amicable relationship coincides with the governor’s aggressive campaigning for Democratic nominations in conservative states.
The Times reports that he has purchased television advertisements and billboards in Florida and Texas in an effort to refute the perception among conservatives that California is a failed, drug-ridden, lawless state.
