On Wednesday, following the video presentation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to Congress, Joe Biden announced new US military assistance to be delivered to the besieged nation.

In the immediate aftermath of Biden’s announcement, Fox News correspondent Jacqui Heinrich asked if Putin is a war criminal, given everything that the president has seen so far. A powerful video was part of Zelenskyy’s presentation to Congress illustrating the devastation caused by the war.

Initially, Biden responded tp the reporter’s direct question with, “No.”

As he continued to make his way through the room, however, he quickly turned back to the journalist, asking for clarification; he exclaimed, “Oh, I think he is a war criminal” after which he proceeded to continue walking.

A news briefing was conducted later in the day when Psaki was asked what had caused the change. In a previous statement by the administration, it had stated only that Putin was under investigation for potential war crimes.

In response, Psaki replied that it was watching news broadcasts that influenced Biden’s answer this question.

“The president’s remarks speak for themselves,” she said. “He was speaking from his heart and speaking from what he’s seen on television, which is barbaric actions by a brutal dictator through his invasion of a foreign country.”

“There is a legal process that continues to … be underway at the State Department. That’s a process that they would have any updates on,” the press secretary added.

The issue was revisited by a reporter later in the briefing, who pointed out that Biden had not called Putin a war criminal in the first three weeks of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

“As you note, there is an ongoing … formal process before you can use this term. So something must have changed for the president to feel like he can take this additional step today. What? What else is he seeing?” the reporter asked.

Again, Psaki called attention to the media’s coverage of the invasion.

“The president was answering a direct question that was asked and responding to what he has seen on television,” she said.

“We have all seen barbaric acts, horrific acts by a foreign dictator in a country that is threatening and taking the lives of civilians, impacting hospitals, women who are pregnant, journalists, others,” Psaki continued. “I think he was answering a direct question.”

This significance behind Psaki’s admission is that basically Biden is being briefed on major world issues by what left-leaning, biased commentators and political pundits on outlets such as MSNBC and CNN, and making critical decisions with the information he receives from television.

Isn’t the commander in chief backed with a multibillion-dollar intelligence apparatus that is particularly devoted to providing him with the most accurate information?

According to conservative commentator Ed Morrissey, one of the reasons Psaki walked back Biden’s remarks about Putin has to do with Iran.

Moscow responded forcefully Wednesday to Biden’s war criminal characterization, calling it “unacceptable and unforgivable” rhetoric, the BBC reported.

According to Morrissey, Psaki’s official “walk-back at the White House of it being just Biden’s personal view looks like a retreat in the face of Russian complaints. And that might be precisely what it is, because Biden’s still relying on Russia to accommodate Biden’s desperate ambition to re-enter the Iran [nuclear] deal.”

A central role is being played by Russia at the ongoing talks taking place in Vienna now.

“Rather than recognize the insanity of that foreign policy, Biden and his White House have decided that it makes more sense to accommodate Putin and walk back the obvious,” Morrissey wrote.

During the Obama administration, both Russia and Iran were accomodated by the US as much as possible, and the US bending over backwards in order to do so. As a result, both countries interpreted America’s conduct as weakness and pressed forward with their misbehavior, including Iran’s ongoing support of terrorist groups and Russia’s invasion of Crimea in 2014.

Considering the bulk of Biden and his team consists of Obama alumni like Psaki, one would think that Biden and his team would have learned their lesson, but it seems that they have not.

It’s difficult to consider what is worse — that the spokesperson for the president doesn’t seem to feel that there is an issue with the leader of the free world taking direction from news commentators on television rather than foreign policy experts, or that the the president is haplessly leading the country down a path with these practices.

Biden’s incompetence has never been more evident and his administration is in part to blame for it. They work harder at converting up his feckless remarks, actions, and lack of real leadership by passing blame elsewhere and spinning the reality of his failures that the entire world can see.
