Tiger Woods has apologized for last week’s prank in which he gave fellow player Justin Thomas a tampon because one of Thomas’ drives was shorter than Tiger’s.
On Thursday, Woods was playing in a threesome with Thomas and Rory McIlroy at the Genesis Invitational when his shot off the tee beat both of his companions on the ninth hole. Tiger slipped a tampon into Thomas’ palm as they began their trek to their balls to indicate that the younger golfer’s shot didn’t quite make it the distance.
Woods’ use of a feminine hygiene product to imply that Thomas was “playing like a girl” infuriated feminists and wokesters alike.
According to Fox News, Woods issued an apology following a barrage of criticism directed at him.
On Friday, Woods had apologized and stated that it was all a joke.
“Yeah, it was supposed to be all fun and games and obviously it hasn’t turned out that way. If I offended anybody, it was not the case, it was just friends having fun,” he told reporters during a media availability session at the tournament.
“As I said, if I offended anybody in any way, shape or form, I’m sorry,” Woods said. “It was not intended to be that way. It was just, we play pranks on one another all the time and virally I think this did not come across that way, but between us it was — it’s different.”

Woods has struggled to stay up with his colleagues’ scores for several years, especially since the automobile accident that almost cost him his leg in February 2021. And the Genesis Invitational has not been much easier.
The tournament marks the first competitive outing for the 47-year-old golf great in seven months, and he just made the cut on Friday with a 3-over 74. According to ESPN, Woods tied for 60th position in the competition with one stroke over par, as the best 65 players progressed to the following round.
According to CBS Sports, on Saturday he recovered significantly and was tied for 26th position with an overall score of 3 under par.
While many were pleased to see Woods back on the course, the tampon joke drew widespread criticism on Thursday.
From the ninth tee, Woods hammered a 323-yard drive, while Thomas’ ball slid to a stop at barely 313 yards. When the two began heading down the fairway, Woods placed a tampon into Thomas’ hand, suggesting that this was the moment Tiger had been waiting for.
