Those who have been following the New York civil case against former President Donald Trump are aware that the prosecution, specifically New York Attorney General Leticia James and presiding Judge Arthur Engoron, have repeatedly engaged in unethical behavior.
Since there is no jury, Engoron, who is presiding over the $250 million litigation, is the solitary arbiter of the verdict. He will determine the punishment and outcome. Furthermore, his stance on Trump is unambiguous: he has issued silence orders that violate the principle of free expression and has refused to examine the document that would resolve the entire dispute this week.
The judge rejected Trump’s written disclaimer in court, which exonerates him of any errors in valuation, despite the fact that the entire case appears to hinge on this point.
Having consistently criticized the judge’s conduct throughout the proceedings, the Trump campaign is now confronted with a complaint from a more local source.
NBC News reports:
Rep. Elise Stefanik, the House GOP conference chair, has filed a judicial ethics complaint against the judge presiding over the New York civil fraud case against Donald Trump, accusing Judge Arthur Engoron of “weaponized lawfare” against the former president and calling on the judge to recuse himself.
Stefanik, R-N.Y., wrote in a letter to the New York State Commission on Judicial Conduct that Engoron had demonstrated “clear judicial bias” against Trump, including by telling Trump’s attorney that the former president is “just a bad guy” whom New York Attorney General Letitia James “should go after.”
She claimed that the judge had neglected to uphold Trump’s right to due process, and that the former president’s status as the leading candidate for the presidential nomination further compounds these concerns.
A partial ban order was issued by Engoron against Trump last month subsequent to his discourse on the matter via social media and in interviews with reporters. Due to his two violations of the prohibition order, he was fined. The judge extended the confidentiality order to include the attorneys for the former president last week.
“I filed an official judicial complaint against Judge Arthur Engoron for his inappropriate bias and judicial intemperance in New York’s disgraceful lawsuit against President Donald J. Trump and the Trump Organization,” Stefanik said in a statement to NBC News. “Americans are sick and tired of the blatant corruption by radical Leftist judges in NY. All New Yorkers must speak out against the dangerous weaponized lawfare against President Trump.”
NBC continued:
Stefanik said in the letter to accompany the complaint that Engoron had illegally gagged Trump’s protected political speech, violated political giving rules with financial contributions to Democrats as recently as 2018, and ignored a decision on the appropriate statute of limitations in the case. At the start of the trial, Engoron “infamously smiled and posed for the cameras,” she noted.
“If Judge Engoron can railroad a billionaire New York businessman, a former President of the United States, and the leading presidential candidate, just imagine what he could do to all New Yorkers,” Stefanik writes. “Judge Engoron’s lawlessness sends an ominous and illegal warning to New York business owners: If New York judges don’t like your politics, they will destroy your business, the livelihood of your employees, and you personally. This Commission cannot let this continue.”
“All Americans, including political opponents, must receive due process and equal protection under our U.S. and New York Constitutions,” Stefanik wrote. “Judge Engoron’s disdain for President Trump and his politics are evident, and the Commission must take corrective action to restore a just process and protect our constitutional rights. Judge Engoron must recuse from this case.”
Stefanik’s outrage regarding the judge’s treatment of Plaintiff Trump is not shared by all. The American Civil Liberties Union argued last month that the federal judge overseeing Trump’s criminal case regarding his efforts to manipulate the 2020 election had infringed upon his First Amendment rights by imposing a prohibition order.
Stefanik, the leading New York Republican in the House, is presently engaged in a legal dispute with New York Governor Kathy Hochul regarding the expansion of mail-in voting. She has demonstrated transparency regarding her conduct by publishing her letter and complaint on X.
In her post, she expresses her abhorrence at the maltreatment of a former president who was persecuted:
“Americans are sick and tired of the blatant corruption by radical leftist judges in NY. All New Yorkers must speak out against the dangerous weaponized lawfare against President Trump. Read my full complaint below.”

The various legal proceedings initiated by Democrats against Trump appear to be waning in momentum and will continue for as long as possible. It seems that the objective is to portray Trump unfavorably, rather than successfully establishing his culpability, as this is not transpiring.
Polls indicate that they are not deceiving the American people.
