President Joe Biden claimed on Tuesday that “the first lady’s husband had contracted COVID” – only to be reminded moments later that he was actually the first lady’s husband.

“Look at the stage,” Biden said as he motioned towards the side. “There’s been a little change in the arrangement of who’s on the stage, because of — the first lady’s husband contracted COVID, but … look at this room and what you’ll see …”
At that moment, Biden’s attention was caught by someone off to the side, and he stepped back to hear them.
“Pardon me?” Biden asked, drawing laughter from the crowd, which only grew louder as he realized what he had said and said, “That’s right. She’s fine. It’s me … The second lady — the first gentleman — how about that?”

Biden seemed to be trying to announce that the husband of Vice President Kamala Harris, Doug Emhoff, had tested positive for COVID-19.
According to CNN:
“Earlier today, the Second Gentleman tested positive for Covid-19,” said Sabrina Singh, deputy press secretary for Vice President Kamala Harris. “Out of an abundance of caution, the Vice President will not participate in tonight’s event. The Vice President tested negative for Covid-19 today and will continue to test.”
Emhoff’s positive test is the first known case of Covid-19 among the first or second families since President Joe Biden and Harris took office in January 2021.
“I tested positive for COVID. My symptoms are mild and I’m grateful to be both vaccinated and boosted,” Emhoff said on Twitter Tuesday night. “If you have yet to get vaccinated and boosted, please don’t wait.”
A Politico report states that Emhoff is not thought to be a “close contact” to the president. Harris, who tested negative so far, has been with both Emhoff and Biden for a few days now. The official stated that the president, “was tested this weekend as part of his regular cadence, and we will continue his regular cadence of testing.”
Biden will travel to Brussels next week to participate in a conference of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) concerning the recent Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Biden also had trouble remembering which state former Michigan governor Jennifer Granholm was from when he introduced the now Energy Secretary.

“Former Governor Jennifer Granholm of the Energy Department,” I often kid her, and I wasn’t kidding early on when I was seeking the nomination, had she been born in America, she’d be standing here and I’d be sitting there.”
“She was the former governor of the state of — uh — Michigan. Michigan? Wrong. She was the former state of—she was a governor,” Biden stumbled.
She served as Michigan’s first female Attorney General from 1999-2003 and as Governor of the state from 2003-2011.
There are some Republicans calling for President Joe Biden to take a cognitive test as a result of their belief that his “mental decline” has become more manifest in recent months.
As recent polls increasingly indicate, more Americans are not certain whether or not Vice President Joe Biden is mentally fit for the demanding job of being president, nearly 40 GOP members of Congress want him to follow the precedent set by his predecessor, former President Donald Trump.
Ronny Jackson, the former White House physician to President Trump, led a group of Republican colleagues from across the country on Tuesday in signing a letter to President Biden in which they voice their concerns about his “current cognitive state.”
“My colleagues and I are again asking President Biden to immediately undergo a formal cognitive screening exam, such as the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MOCA),” Jackson stated.
“As a former physician to three Presidents of the United States, I know what it takes mentally and physically to execute the duties of Commander-in-Chief and Head of State,” Jackson continued. “Joe Biden has continually proven to me and to the world that something isn’t right. The American people deserve to have absolute confidence in their President’s cognitive ability.”

According to the Texas Republican, “the cognitive test will be an important first step” in assuring the public that Biden is qualified to serve, or “in identifying and properly treating symptoms of impairment that are consistent with a variety of cognitive diseases, such as Alzheimer’s, vascular dementia, Parkinson’s, or multiple sclerosis.”
“This is not a partisan issue. When I discussed taking a cognitive test with President Trump, he was eager to assure the American people and to put the fake news media’s stories to bed,” Jackson added. “Why won’t President Biden do the same?
“We can only assume the worst if he doesn’t submit to the same standard that his own party demanded of the last Administration,” he continued. “The precedent has been set.”
The lawmakers said in their letter that they “believe that, regardless of gender, age, or political party, all Presidents should follow the example set by former President Trump to document and demonstrate sound mental abilities.”
