The Manhattan grand jury has indicted former President Donald Trump on the allegations pursued by District Attorney Alvin Bragg since he entered office.
Mr. Bragg’s grand jury handed down dozens of charges against Mr. Trump on Thursday relating to “hush money” payments he made in 2016 to adult performers Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal, who attempted to extort the money from Trump while he was running for his first term as President of the United States.
The issue was earlier ruled closed by a former district attorney, but Bragg revived the accusations and has now witnessed the attempt to tarnish Trump reach this point. The former president has been anticipating this move and is prepared to come to New York to face the allegations in person, while being accompanied by the Secret Service.
The Washington Times writes that former President Donald Trump is set to arrive in New York on Tuesday for an extraordinary arrest featuring fingerprinting, mugshot, and most crucially, a news conference following his arraignment.
The Washington Times has learnt that Trump plans to give a message to the MAGA movement when he is arraigned in New York on Tuesday. A close ally of Mr. Trump stated that the former president would likely conduct a news conference following his arrest in New York City and will inform his followers that the indictment is not about him.
Mr. Trump has been refining this narrative to mobilize his followers against the indictment, which is the first time a former president has been charged with a crime. “The Deep State will use anything at their disposal to shut down the one political movement that puts YOU first,” Mr. Trump has said in a social media message.
Trump posted on Saturday, “THE REDICAL LEFT DEMOCRATS HAVE LIED, CHEATED, AND STOLEN IN THEIR MANIACAL OBSESSION TO ‘GET TRUMP’, BUT NOW THEY’VE GONE TOO FAR, INDICTING A TOTALLY INNOCENT MAN IN AN ACT OF OBSTRUCTION AND BLATENT ELECTION INTERFERENCE. In America, speculation abounds around the number of politicians who have allegedly been accused by people seeking bribes for their silence during elections.
Others estimate the known number to be at least in the dozens, as it is typical for individuals to seek remuneration in exchange for an assault on a candidate for public office. The fact that the claimed transaction occurred years ago and no objections were raised at the time by authorities, as well as the fact that a prior district attorney’s office closed the case, renders the entire thing suspect.
Mr. Trump’s followers hope that the indictment against the notoriously liberal Manhattan district attorney, Alvin Bragg, would backfire and push Mr. Trump to the presidency in 2024. They believe it will motivate not only Mr. Trump’s base in the Make America Great Again movement, but also a larger coalition of Republicans and independents.
