President Joe Biden took to Twitter to advocate one of the left’s favored causes, but the social media site’s fact-checkers were not amused.
Friday, the president took to Twitter to advocate for gun control and the prohibition of AR-15 models, a cause that enjoys near-unanimous support within his party. As part of his argument for gun control, Biden asserted that firearms are the leading cause of mortality among American youth.
“Guns are the #1 killer of kids in America. More than car accidents and more than cancer. We can’t let that become just another statistic,” Biden tweeted.
Accidents are the primary cause of mortality for children, much to Biden’s displeasure, as the Twitter Community Notes feature acted swiftly to refute Biden’s outrageous and false claim.
“According to the CDC, accidents are the leading cause of death for children and adolescents,” the Community Note read.
In addition, the note outlined the extensive manipulation of facts that would be necessary for Biden’s claim to be true.
For Biden’s claim to have any validity, infants under the age of one, who are rarely victims of gun violence, would have to be excluded, and 18- and 19-year-olds, the primary demographic affected by gun violence, would have to be counted as children.
Infants are still deemed children, while 18- and 19-year-olds are considered adults under the law, so their fatalities are considered adult deaths.
Guns are the #1 killer of kids in America.
More than car accidents and more than cancer. We can't let that become just another statistic.
Let's ban AR-15-style firearms and other assault weapons.

According to all accounts, this was a shallow attempt by the far left to gain political points while remaining completely detached from reality.
In other terms, it is a typical left-wing argument.
The Community Note contained a number of links refuting Biden’s absurd claim, including studies and reports from various outlets such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (here claiming that “accidents” are the leading cause of death among children) and Snopes (here reluctantly admitting that guns are not the leading cause of death among children without gross data manipulation).
In addition, many were eager to respond to the tweet by pointing out that neither Biden nor the Community Notes mentioned the primary cause of child deaths: abortion.

The public has every right to remind the president of this fact. Abortion kills millions of children daily, far more than gun violence ever kills on any given day.
Biden asserts that he cares about children’s lives, but he supports the primary cause of infant mortality.
Don’t forget that Biden supports abortion unreservedly despite the fact that it conflicts with the Catholic faith he purportedly follows.
Americans are regrettably accustomed to the Biden administration’s preposterous claims, but this one may take the cake. It is a ridiculous assertion that is evidently false to anyone with eyes to see.
Biden and the left are not being truthful about this because doing so would require them to acknowledge that their priorities are misplaced and abandon causes that are dear to them.
As the response to this tweet demonstrates, however, the American people no longer believe it.
