During Sunday’s Golden Globe Awards, there was considerable movement among numerous seats occupied by expensively attired celebrities, as comedian Jim Gaffigan made reference to the ongoing court documents that have identified individuals associated with the deceased alleged sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein.

In accordance with a settlement reached by Epstein victim Virginia Giuffre in a lawsuit against Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell, who was subsequently convicted of sex trafficking, hundreds of pages of documents are being made public.

A diverse array of individuals who were referenced in depositions or other documents are listed in the documents. Certain names have been historically associated with Epstein, a convicted sexual offender, including former President Bill Clinton and Prince Andrew of the United Kingdom.

Others, including the magician David Copperfield, are being mentioned in public for the first time in relation to Epstein, who made waves among the most prominent financiers and celebrities in the entertainment industry.

Several personalities, including models Naomi Campbell, Cate Blanchett, and Cameron Diaz, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Bruce Willis, have been mentioned in the documents that have been made public thus far. All have reportedly denied any association with Epstein, as reported by the Daily Mail in the United Kingdom.

As he introduced the victor of the stand-up comedy TV category, Gaffigan laughed heartily and exclaimed, “I can’t even believe I’m in the entertainment industry. I can’t. You know, it’s so unlikely.”

“I’m from a small town in Indiana, I’m not a pedophile,” he said.

“I don’t know if that’s a new category here,” he added, according to the U.K. Mirror.

Page Six of The New York Post reported that while some in the audience, including Taylor Swift, laughed heartily at the remark, “others remained awkwardly silent.”

The remark generated considerable discussion on the social media platform Twitter.

The morality, or lack of same, among Hollywood’s celebrities, was fodder for comedian Ricky Gervais at the 2020 Golden Globes, when he called the crowd “perverts,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“Tonight isn’t just about the people in front of the camera. In this room are some of the most important TV and film executives in the world. People from every background. But they all have one thing in common: They’re all terrified of Ronan Farrow,” he said, referencing a reporter involved in breaking several of the MeToo sex abuse scandals.

“He’s coming for you, he’s coming for you,” Gervais said next.
